Witamy po przerwie! Lato w Oksfordzie żadne - poza pięciodniowym przebłyskiem słońca, lało CAŁY LIPIEC! W tych warunkach sprawdzałam się w nowej roli, mianowicie nauczycielki zoologii na jednej ze szkół letnich, które latem opanowują miasto. Moi uczniowie byli średnio zachwyceni perspektywą wycieczek w deszczu i błocie, ale daliśmy radę: udało nam się odwiedzić farmę uniwersytecką, pobrać próbki wody i zobaczyć rzeczne bezkręgowce, przetestować obroże z radionadajnikami, przenalizować tropy różnych zwierząt i nawet całkiem nieźle się przy tym bawić!
Tymczasem załączam zdjęcia z sesji, na której gościnnie wystąpiła pewna bardzo fotogeniczna Agnieszka.

Welcome back after the break! Oxford's summer is hopeless - apart from a five-day sunny spell, ALL OF JULY was rainy. In those conditions I was trying out a new role, i.e. that of a zoology teacher at one of the many summer schools that take over Oxford in the summer. My students were pretty unimpressed at the idea of outings in rain and mud, but we managed to get on with it, and have visited the university farm, collected water samples to look at aquatic invertebrates, tested radio-tracking collars, analysed the tracks of various animals - and had a good amount of fun at it too!
In the meantime I bring you photos from a shoot which has been graced by the presence of a certain highly photogenic Agnieszka.

Summer recipes

Here are two recipes for you.
First of all, the perfect summer dress:
- no sleeves
- a wide skirt
- a built-in corset
- a floral pattern.
I have three such dresses, in three lengths - hopefully the other two will make an appearance sometime soon.

Secondly, a perfect summer shoot: find four (FOUR!) extremely talented photographers, and keep on smiling while four cameras point at you from different directions. Don't get too big-headed!

Po pierwsze, na idealną sukienkę letnią:
- brak rękawów
- szeroka spódnica
- wbudowany gorset
- kwiecisty wzór.
Tego lata czekają na mnie trzy takie suknie, w trzech długościach. Mam nadzieję, że dwie pozostałe niedługo pojawią się na blogu.


Po drugie, przepis na idealną sesję letnią. Weź czterech (tak! czterech!) utalentowanych fotografów i uśmiechaj się zachęcająco do czterech obiektywów wycelowanych z różnych stron. Nie strać głowy z nadmiaru uwagi!

Bombastic!

Adrian's back, with a 50s pin-up photoshoot. This here was another two-on-one arrangement with Adrian and Marten; and the one of a kind dress comes from Marten's friend Kate, of Kate's clothing. Take a closer look - the little cherries are in fact hand grenades! Love at first sight.

Adrian powrócił! Razem z Martenem urządziliśmy kolejną sesję w stylu pin-up lat 50-tych. Wyjątkowa sukienka jest prezentem od znajomej Martena, Kate, właścicielki Kate's clothing. Przyjrzyjcie się bliżej - wisienki to de facto granaty ręczne! Ciuchowa miłość od pierwszego wejrzenia.

P.S. - Wanilianno, balerinki to jednak nie koniec świata! Da się je nosić w fajnych zestawach...

Some time ago Vintage Girl announced a styling, metropolis-inspired contest  (condition: the look is to include a minimum of two H&M accessories). Not easy, since - although I own quite a few H&M clothes - I don't have many of their accessories, and as of yet the chain has not opened a store in Oxford (why not? why?? they'd be raking it in with all the students around!). Using whatever I had at hand, I created two looks, inspired by...

Jakiś czas temu Vintage Girl ogłosiła konkurs na stylizację inspirowaną miastem (warunek: minimum dwa dodatki H&M). Nie mogłam przepuścić takiej okazji! Musiałam się niestety mocno nagłowić, jako że o ile ciuchów z H&M mam całkiem sporo, o tyle z dodatkami już gorzej; a w Oksfordzie jak na razie ta sieć nie otworzyła sklepu (czemu? czemu?? obłowiliby się na studentach!). W każdym razie przy pomocy tego, co było pod ręką, stworzyłam dwie stylizacje. A inspirowane są...

Adrian: Most of all I wanted to thank you very much for the recent comments and sincerely apologise for the delay. I was on a long holiday during the Easter break and had a lot of work catch up with afterwards. Not much time for the hobby unfortunately. Not to mention, I've had a little photo crisis recently. For some reasons I don't feel the urge to take photographs... I think I need a little break after the recent months when I had so many assignments. Besides, I've been into music a lot recently... It has always been my greatest love and I don't want to neglect it anymore.

Nevertheless, here's the second set of the studio pictures. Once again thank you for waiting, I do appreciate that.

Joanna: On my part I want to add that my no. 1 Black Swan accessory is a woolen boa from Peri (she made it herself! talented woman), and the White Swan showcases a wonderful vintage coat bought at the Affordable Vintage Fashion Fair in Oxford, from Samantha.

Retro-Chicken

For reasons I could not understand Joanna wanted to arrange a photo session with chickens she raises next to the Department of Zoology where she works. It rained terribly that day and it certainly did not make me more enthusiastic either. But oh well, what won't you do for women?

I like the effect though. Do you?
Please do not ask what she is wearing. I do not know anything more than you can see, but I am sure Joanna will update the post when she returns.
Speaking of me, I use an excellent Pentax K10D (it's weather proof!)

Z niezrozumiałych dla mnie powodów Joanna chciała zorganizować sesję fotograficzną z kurami, które hoduje przy Wydziale Zoologii, na ktorym pracuje. Strasznie tego dnia padało i pogoda tym bardziej nie nastrajała mnie entuzjastycznie. Ale cóż, czego się nie robi dla kobiet?

Efekt jednak podoba mi się. A Wam?

Proszę, nie pytajcie co Joanna ma na sobie. Nie wiem nic więcej prócz tego, co widać, ale jestem pewien, że Asia dopisze wszystkie informacje do wątku, gdy wróci.

Co do mnie, to oczywiście używam znakomitego Pentaksa K10D (jest odporny na wilgoć!).

Automobile ambrotypes

After a bit of fiddling with the photos, Adrian easily convinced his colleagues that the first image is in fact of his grandmother who came to the UK after the war to join his grandfather, a fighter pilot.

Po obróbce zdjęć Adrian z łatwością wmówił znajomym z pracy, że pierwsza fotografia przedstawia jego babcię, która przyjechała do UK po wojnie do dziadka - pilota myśliwskiego.

Adrian is using Pentax K10D with a Pentax 50mm SMC FA 1.4 lens. He tries to refrain from using strobes, but some pictures received extra fill light. Photographs have been "developed" as monochromes. He tried to simulate using old paper and toners as well as old photo techniques, hence some of them look like ambrotypes. Adrian also applied textures for the extra vintage effect.
Adrian używa aparatu Pentax K10D z obiektywem 50mm SMC FA 1.4. Stara się unikać używania flashu, ale niektóre zdjęcia otrzymały dodatkowe oświetlenie. Fotografie zostały "wywołane" w czerni i bieli. Adrian stara się symulować efekt użycia starego papieru i tonerów oraz dawnych technik fotograficznych, stąd niektóre wyglądają jak ambrotypy. Ponadto użył dodatkowych faktur, by nadać im dawniejszy charakter.

Dotty 50s on wheels

We have been planning a 1950s' style photo shoot for quite a while now, but only last Saturday, three hours before Germany's crushing victory over Argentina in the World Cup, has the plan come to fulfillment.

The photos were taken at the Oxford Bus Museum, with the help of Kasia and to the amusement of museum volunteers and visitors.
