Mniej retro, bardziej swetro

British winter is not really winter (12 C!), and the outfit is not quite in line with the retro theme of the blog, but my sweater-scarf is pretty awesome all the same and should be worn despite the weather. It's mainly fringe anyway! The photos were taken on Turl Street in Oxford - a little alley in the city centre, which always seems to have beautiful light, and which is a good place to dance in (see below), shop, or have a coffee (The Missing Bean is supposedly the best cafe in town).

Brytyjska zima to żadna zima (12 stopni), a strój nie do końca w stylu retro, ale frędzlowy swetro-szal należy nosić niezależnie od pogody. Zdjęcia zrobiliśmy na Turl Street w Oksfordzie - to mała alejka z przepięknym światłem, gdzie można potańczyć (dowody poniżej), połazić po sklepach, lub napić się kawy (The Missing Bean uchodzi za najlepszą kawiarnię w mieście).

A man on the street said that his dog would match the outfit very well - it did indeed, and we borrowed it for a few photos. I don't see many curly-coated retrievers, so getting to know one a bit better was a real treat.

On the other side

... of the world and of the camera. Thanks to my Cambridge friend Mike, a series of lucky circumstances, and my zoological profession, I ended up in my beloved Galapagos Archipelago once again. This time though I had Marten's camera (thank you!), and finally understood the excitement of switching lenses, adjusting light, looking for new angles and so on. Hopefully the pictures below will give you at least a bit of an idea of the absolutely mindblowing wildlife of the islands. Just wow.

Dziwne miejsce - po drugiej stronie świata i obiektywu. Dzięki mojemu przyjacielowi Mike'owi z Cambridge, szczęśliwemu zbiegowi okoliczności, oraz swojej zoologicznej profesji znalazłam się ponownie na moich ukochanych wyspach Galapagos. Tym razem miałam ze sobą aparat Martena, więc nareszcie zrozumiałam frajdę zmieniania obiektywów, bawienia się światłem, szukania nowych ujęć itd. Mam nadzieję, że zdjęcia poniżej oddadzą przynajmniej odrobinę przyrodniczych wspaniałości archipelagu. Po prostu cudo.

So, let me introduce to you...

A marine iguana. Legwan morski.

Magnificent frigatebird puffing up its pouch. Fregata wielka (pan fregata właściwie) nadymająca worek podczas toków.

Sea lion. Lew morski.

Galapagos penguin. Pingwin równikowy.

Nazca booby. Głuptak galapagoski.

 

 Sally light-foot crab. Niestety, nie znam polskiej nazwy tego kraba...

Red-footed booby. It nests in trees, and when it perches it looks a bit like a duck trying to balance on a branch. Głuptak czerwononogi. Gnieździ się na drzewach, a kiedy chwyta się łapami gałęzi, to wygląda trochę jak kaczka próbująca złapać równowagę.

A swallow-tailed gull. Mewa widłosterna.

And finally, Galapagos tortoises. I have taken a picture of them with a mule, just to show the size.
I wreszcie żółwie słoniowe, na zdjęciu w towarzystwie muła, żeby pokazać skalę.
